Tearjerkers

Yes, sometimes I want to cry. And, it is unlikely that it will happen due to events in my life because I have it pretty good. Other than during the occasional funeral, I'm more prone to fits of rage or giving the silent treatment than shedding a tear when expressing extreme emotion.

But, I do love the catharsis of a good, wet weep. Last weekend, I watched "The Barbarian Invasions (Les Invasions Barbares)," a touching Canadian film dealing with a dying family member. So, I decided to start a list of the movies that brought me to tears, at least the ones that I can remember.

The Barbarian Invasions (Les Invasion Barbares)
The Son of the Bride (El Hijo de la Novia)
Steel Magnolias
Billy Elliot
The Wedding Planner (surprisingly, one scene with Matthew McConaughey outside Jennifer Lopez's door)
Artificial Intelligence AKA A.I.
The Adventures of Felix (Drôle de Félix)
All About My Mother (Todo Sobre Mi Madre)
Bent
The Color Purple
Edge of Seventeen
For the Boys
Hotel Rwanda
I Am Sam
The Joy Luck Club
Lean on Me
Life
Love Actually
My First Mister
Mr. Holland's Opus
Paradise Road
One True Thing
Schindler's List
Stepmom
What Dreams May Come
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Halloween 2005

Keeping with the 80's theme of one of the Halloween parties I attended this year, I decided to go as King Jareth from the 80's movie, Labyrinth, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. I bought some lace, some tights, a surfer wig, some extra blond hair to weave into it, a bottle of hairspray, fabric, makeup, and duct tape. I may not be as thin, but I think I did a damn good job.
My hair's a bit messed up in the picture (at the 3rd party of the evening). And, would you be surprised I was NOT the only King Jareth at the party. A younger guy, nice straight boy, also came to the 80's party but he was in a store-bought costume (white shirt, vest and grey pants, brown Tina Turner wig, and no makeup). Thank god, we weren't wearing the outfits from the same scenes of the movie. I picked the darker look because

1: It's slimming 2: I couldn't find grey tights 3: I don't have a white puffy shirt.
